Mercedes-Benz has displayed its latest Zetrostruck, an 8x8 version rushed in from trials, for the first time at Eurosatory 2024 hot on the heels of Canada ordering 512 of the type as part of its massive order of CA$2.8 billion (US$1.8 billion) for 1,500 trucks.
The vehicle is being manufactured in Germany but a lot of systems and vehicle sections are being manufactured in Canada as part of the Power Team which includes General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada (GDLS-Canada), Marshall Canada, Soframe and Manac.
The vehicle has a length of 11.1m, a width of 2.6m, a height of 3.7m and a gross vehicle weight of 38t with a fording capacity of 1.5m. It can carry a payload up to 25t.

The first of the vehicles under Canada's Logistics Vehicle Modernisation project will be delivered to Canada in 2026 and, as well as the Zetros 8x8, will include 1,222 4x4 vehicles.
A company official said the latest version completes the family of trucks which was described as adaptable with up-armoured cabs able to be installed on trucks within two days either by the company or at a base.
The official highlighted the ability of the vehicle to be adapted to high Stanag levels of protection and the company was working on CUAS defensive systems with partner companies to install systems to detect UAS and in the future to act against threats which was a growing danger.
The official noted that several hundred 4x4 versions had entered service with Ukraine and more were on the way but would not disclose numbers.
