In 1915, in the midst of the First World War, Lloyd Dynamowerke (LDW) was founded with the participation of Norddeutscher Lloyd. Its aim was to professionally develop and produce electrical engineering products, including electric propulsion technology, for shipbuilding. In the same year, Albert Einstein gave his first lecture on his General Theory of Relativity.
In 1934, AEG acquired all shares of LDW. For more than 60 years, LDW was an important part of the AEG Group, responsible for electric motors and generators in the power range up to approximately 60 MW. During these years, LDW consistently succeeded in utilizing and advancing technological progress.
LDW not only survives technical and economic changes, but also draws from them the enthusiasm, flexibility, and willingness to change and perform that still exists today.
Even today, thousands of machines and systems with AEG-LDW motors or generators are in use worldwide.
After being spun off from the AEG Group, LDW became an independent company again in 1999. Since April 2017, we have been part of Powertrans SA from Luxembourg. We are a German medium-sized company headquartered in Bremen, and our market is Europe and the world.
